A man in uniform could makes a girls heart beat faster but not all romance was as it seemed or should be.

Tony, on the other hand, is pretty similar to Kathy in that you feel for him, albeit annoying at times because of the way he's always putting his mother first.

Market trader Eddie takes pity on Anna, a young girl abandoned in the marketplace of a small Lincolnshire town, and shelters her. Determined to enjoy life after the years of misery, and to help her forget a broken love affair, she seeks excitement in the London parties and balls of the Roaring Twenties. This was followed by thirteen further titles, including Plough the Furrow, Sow the Seed and Reap the Harvest which make up her Lincolnshire Fleethaven trilogy and her most recent novels, The Fisher Lass and The Tulip Girl. Meg Kirkland fears her impudent tongue has caused her father's dismissal from his job and forced her whole family from their home on Middleditch Farm. Hannah Francis has been forced to leave her beloved mother and the life she knows in Macclesfield to become an apprentice at a cotton mill in the Derbyshire dales.

Wartime Friends is a tale of unbreakable bonds in times of strife, by bestselling author of The Poacher's Daughter, Margaret Dickinson. Shunned by her own family, desperate for work a place to stay, Esther Everatt walks through the night to Sam Brumby's farm, seeking the chance to earn her keep. Kathy has a powerful singing voice and she is able to do her bit for the war effort by joining a concert party going round entertaining workers and troops. Surprisingly, she published most of her works under Robert Hale, a London publisher that did not have any connections to Lincolnshire. This was followed by many further titles including Plough the Furrow, Sow the Seed and Reap the Harvest, which make up her Fleethaven trilogy. Margaret went to Skegness Grammar School and upon graduation, she was admitted to Lincoln Technical College. Apart from a young man named Rob who works as a laborer on a neighboring farm and her beloved grandfather, Ella feels unloved and ultimately heads back to Lincoln.

Dickinson now has more than forty works to her name across several series, single-standing novels, several omnibuses, and a collection of short stories alongside Mary Wood, Diane Allen, Pam Weaver, Annie Murray, and Rita Bradshaw. This was followed by many further titles including Plough the Furrow, Sow the Seed and Reap the Harvest, which make up her Lincolnshire Fleethaven Trilogy. On her eighteenth birthday, she announces that she intends to marry Danny and this is when the truth comes out and she discovers that she could never marry her sweetheart. Evacuated to Lincolnshire from the East End of London at the outbreak of war, she is frightened of the wide open spaces and the huge skies. Brought there by her mother's ambitious schemes for her brother, Josh, she had found work as a buffer girl polishing cutlery for the city's famous trade. When Florrie Maltby defies her father by refusing to marry Gervase Richards, she sets off a chain of events that will alter her life. I always enjoy Margaret Dickinson's books and what I loved about this one is that you didn't really know how Kathy's story was going to end because you didn't know which man Kathy was going to be with in the end but you just keep hoping she is with her child in the end. Top 10 Sunday Times bestseller Margaret Dickinson is back at Bletchley in this beautiful family saga full of secrets, drama, love and sacrifice. Everybody thought he was wonderful, ever so thoughtful and caring, and maybe in the day he may have been but reading it 60-70 years after it’s set he’s a concerning one. I am so glad that Mr Wainwright was such a kind and understanding man as I was initially expecting him to be horrible for some reason but that wasn't the case.
