About this deal

Climb aboard the The Train to Christmas Town, a train ride expertly designed to bring the spirit of Christmas to life for another year. Bringing the whole family together for a special ride to remember, experience festive fun with fabulous characters and interactive entertainment. main point is that the themes of domestic abuse and sexual violence, while important to discuss, were too much for this novel. before reading it seems like a bit of festive crime fiction, so the heavy topics would throw people off. setting it at christmas time was unnecessary. didn’t like the detective honestly. took way too long to get into the murder and detective part (about half way through the book) because there were too many other things the book was trying to do. made it slow and too long, repeats itself a lot, and there’s a lot of telling not showing which created some strange dialogue. The light-hearted tone, cheerful banter, festive puzzles and the cover all suggest a Christmassy comfort read and the frequently darker content completely jars with that feel. The content simply doesn't match the tone. This was one twisty tale! Although I read it in February in sunny Sri Lanka I was instantly transported to the height of winter in Scotland. Truly atmospheric. I also enjoyed the references to famous books, songs, and movies that were scattered through the story.

I lived with this - it was never hugely intrusive, but the thing that finalised my mixed feelings about the book was the ending. There's an interesting twist at the end - but the reaction to that twist is to totally lose any sense of justice being done. It just felt wrong. That was the magic of trains. The world seemed to pass you by while you were still, yet somehow you got to where you wanted to go. If only life were like that.” Enjoy the most magical Christmas Experience with your family at the Audley End Miniature Railway. Take our Santa Express deep into the woods of the Audley End Estate where you will arrive at Father Christmas’s Winter Wonderland! You will meet the big man himself, along with his VERY cheeky Elves, receive a special gift and also watch a crazy Christmas Dance!

I'm being harsh. This was still a 3 star read if you can tolerate the discussion of darker social issues. I think I'm more annoyed than I would otherwise be because I LOVE this sort of set up and I WANTED it to get it right. We do have something of a more nuanced character in Roz and I expect we will be hearing more from her in the years to come. An engrossing and heart-warming mystery. Like a glorious Christmas chocolate – beautiful on the outside with a richly dark centre. Perfect to curl up with on cold winter nights’ MARION TODD I'm glad to see that other reviewers agree that there was far too much rape, domestic violence and sexual assault in this book for it to work well as a cosy. Join Santa and his special helpers on a magical adventure aboard the Santa Express, which will take you on a festive journey you won’t forget!

The Christmas trains will be decoration in all their Yuletide finery, ride the Polar Express and meet Santa himself! Also have a look at our list of Christmas Events and Attractions in the UK.

A 5 Star Event!

Did you expect any of that having read the publisher’s summary. Yeah, I didn’t think so. And that is a HUGE problem. The setting is somewhat less exotic than the Orient Express - here it's the sleeper train from London to Fort William - but there's the same opportunity for a tight band of suspects and there's the convenience of a train that gets derailed in a snowstorm, isolating the suspects and the detective - in this case a newly retired Met detective inspector, heading up to Scotland because her daughter's about to give birth. Climb aboard the Christmas Express and join this jolly journey through a winter wonderland as you race to be the first to get to the North Pole.

The Midlands Polar Express Ride –We encourage our guests, young and old to wear pyjamas just as in the book with a dressing gown for good measure also. Children love it and if you can persuade our older guests, Mums, Dads, Granny and Grandpa to also join in, the atmosphere in the train comes alive for a truly magical experience! My other issue with the book is that none of the characters come across as particularly likeable; they don't really develop any kind of personality other than long descriptions of what they're doing or obsessing about. This isn't helped by unnecessarily long descriptions of how a character uses his vape pen, or eats a sweet. In the first part of the book, the detective, Roz, is trying to get to Scotland to be with her daughter who has gone into labour. Roz feels that she's failing her daughter by not being there. We know this because we're told it over and over again. Roz has made a traditional Scottish sweet to take with her. We hear about this sweet endlessly while Roz is waiting for the train, how it tastes, how long it lasts, how she should have sent some to her daughter in the post. The perfect Christmas read . . . and puzzles galore for both readers and the players of the game’ W.C. RYAN Pacific Central Station - 1150 Station Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (Chicago train station) First Class includes morning tea or coffee with a bacon/breakfast roll and a muffin and an afternoon service of tea or coffee with a savoury of the day followed by scone with butter and jam. Item link List Item 2Why not treat yourself to a warm cup of Mulled Wine from our Signal Box Cafe and get your last minute gifts from our Station Shop too! This book should come with multiple trigger warnings, it includes the topics of rape, domestic violence, pregnancy/birth trauma, right from the start. Too many topics shoe-horned into one novel means that the book just seems confused, with fairly unlikeable characters as well. Roz is the saving grace, but only just!
